Authorities today identified the man found fatally shot in High Bridge on Thursday as a resident of this Hunterdon County borough.Randy J. Harner, 42, of the first block of Mark Drive, died of gunshot wounds.
Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Chief of Detectives Dan Hurley said an initial assessment indicated the wounds were self-inflicted.
Harner was reported missing and despondent about 11 a.m. An extensive search in the woods near the Lake Solitude Village development followed.
Area schools were in lockdown mode during the search.
Hurley said despite the fatal outcome, law-enforcement officers did a good job trying to find Harner.
Involved in the search and response were police from High Bridge, Readington Township, Clinton Township, Lebanon Township, Tewksbury Township, the Hunterdon County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hunterdon County SWAT team, the Hunterdon County Sheriff’s Office, New Jersey State Police aviation and electronic surveillance units, the High Bridge Fire Department, the High Bridge Rescue Squad, Hunterdon Medical Center paramedics and the Hunterdon County Medical Examiner’s Office.
